grilled cheese sandwich on open fire

This recipe is perfect when you need to use up leftover bread. You can also use different cheese scraps and vegetables. Make the sandwiches at home and wrap them in aluminium foil, then just throw them on the fire or grill when you have arrived at your destination.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices bread
  • 4 tbsp mustard
  • 4 tbsp ketchup
  • 4 slices tomato
  • 24 slices cheese
  • 1 pinch salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Method

  1. Put ketchup or leftover tomato sauce on one slice and mustard on another. Add the cheese and leftover vegetables you like, season with salt and pepper, or other spices you like, and place the other slice on top. Wrap in aluminium foil. You can do this part at home before you go on a trip.
  2. When the campfire or grill has a nice bed of embers, the packages can be put on. Remember to turn regularly so that the bread is fried on both sides and the cheese melts. Takes about 10-15 minutes.
