A Turkish bread that is immediately linked to the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
Ingredients
- 1 x eggs
- 650 g plain white flour
- 2 dl milk
- 2 dl lukewarm water
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 tsp yeast
- 1 tbsp butter melted
- 1 x egg yolk
- 2 tbsp plain yogurt
- 50 g neutral oil
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
- 1 tbsp nigella seeds
- 1 tbsp neutral oil
Method
- Start by lightly beating the egg in the baking bowl. Then you mix in the rest of the ingredients and knead this well into a flexible dough.
- Cover the dough and let it rise until doubled in size in a warm place.
- Set the oven to 250 degrees. Divide the dough in half. Make two equal-sized items. Form them into two round loaves on the baking sheet with baking paper on them.
- Mix the egg yolk, yoghurt and oil together. Brush the pide well with the egg mixture.
- Make patterns on the bread with your fingertips and sprinkle with sesame seeds and nigella seeds. Bake the pide in the middle of the oven until it has taken on colour.
- Enjoy with desired toppings.
