Tasty and delicious saffron/ St.Lucia buns with an exciting taste of saffron.
Ingredients
- 1 g saffron
- 150 g butter
- 950 g plain white flour
- 2 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 sugar
- 25 g yeast
- 1 tsp cardamom
- 1 handful raisins
- 1 x eggs
- 175 g sugar
- 550 g milk
- 1 x eggs
Method
- Start with the saffron milk. Heat the milk and sugar. Add the saffron. Stir well and leave for 20 minutes. Alternatively, you can use 2 teaspoons of turmeric, which you add directly to the dough together with the other ingredients.
- Cut the butter into small cubes and leave it at room temperature.
- Put the rest of the ingredients in a bowl and knead for 10 minutes at slightly above medium speed. The milk is added cold. Saffron milk should also be included here. If the dough appears sticky, you can add a little more flour.
- Knead in the butter at the end, little by little. This should take 5-10 minutes.
- Let the dough rise until double in size. This usually takes 1-2 hours.
- Shape the saffron buns and leave to rise for 40 minutes to an hour.
- Garnish with raisins.
- Bake at 225 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Brush with egg as soon as the saffron buns are out of the oven. Then they become shiny and beautiful and stay juicy.
