Flour Tortillas

Tortillas are quick and easy to make and taste so much better when you make them yourself. These are great for Friday tacos or as lunch wraps! 1 serving makes 8 large or 16 small tortillas.

Ingredients

  • 500 g plain white flour
  • 3 dl water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Method

  1. Mix flour, water, salt and oil in a bowl, until the consistency is smooth. The easiest is to use freshly washed hands, but a wooden spoon also works well. Cover with a lid or a clean kitchen towel and leave the dough to rise for 10 minutes.
  2. Take the dough out of the bowl and place it on the countertop. First divide the dough into two equal parts, and then halve each part until you have 8 (large tortillas) or 16 (small tortillas).
  3. Roll each part into a ball. Sprinkle flour on the baking bench and leave the parts under a kitchen towel for 10 minutes. This will make them much easier to roll out into thin flakes!
  4. Place the frying pan on the hob.
  5. Take a piece and squeeze it flat with your hands, without using too much force. Roll out to suitable thickness. They should be thin, but if you roll them too thin, they will easily become hard and brittle. Use plenty of flour on the counter so they don't stick.
  6. Once the tortilla has been shaped, place it on the frying pan. When the tortilla puffs up a little, turn it over with the spatula. It won't take more than a minute, so pay attention. Place the tortillas in a stack with a kitchen towel on top.
  7. Brush off excess flour from the frying pan with a dry kitchen towel between each round.
