Focaccia

Freshly baked focaccia with butter is one of the best breads I know. It takes some time to make, but it is definitely worth waiting for the finished result.

Ingredients

  • 300 g plain white flour
  • 3 dl water
  • 1 pinch salt
  • ½ pack dry yeast
  • ½ dl olive oil
  • 1 tbsp orange red pepper powder

Method

  1. Mix all ingredients in a baking machine and let the dough knead for 10 minutes. The dough should be sticky. Cover the dough and let it rise in the fridge for at least 12 hours.
  2. Take the dough out of the fridge and find a suitable fireproof dish. For the bread in the picture, I have used a regular loaf pan, but you can use anything really.
  3. Add olive oil in the mold and drop the dough into it. Carefully push the dough out to the edges. Let the dough rise for 3–4 hours.
  4. Heat the oven to 220 degrees celsius. Add a little more olive oil over the bread and dip clean fingers into the bread. Add flaked salt. If you have some fresh herbs, feta cheese or olives, this tastes really good as a topping. Bake the bread for 30 minutes. Feel free to serve this piping hot with cold butter.
