If you are going to make classic Norwegian "Fastelavns" buns, you must try this recipe! These turn out so fluffy and good - and with wipped cream and jam, it's party time! 1 serving makes 8 large buns.
Ingredients
- 3 ½ dl milk
- 50 g liquid margarine
- ½ pack dry yeast
- 500 g plain white flour
- 50 g sugar
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 ½ dl heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- 1 tbsp powdered sugar
- 2 dl strawberry jam
Method
- Heat milk in a saucepan until it is slightly warmer than your finger. Add liquid margarine and dry yeast. Mix together and set aside.
- Mix together wheat flour, sugar, cinnamon and salt to a bowl. (Preferably a kitchen machine.)
- Make sure that the mixture of margarine, milk and yeast is well mixed. Add this to the flour mixture and knead the dough for approximately 10-15 minutes.
- Let the dough rise for 1.5–2 hours.
- Divide the dough into equal parts. For one serving, make 8 buns. Shape each portion into round balls and place on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
- Let them rise for 30 minutes in a warm place.
- Bake the buns in the middle of the oven at 200 degrees celsius for about 15-20 minutes. Cool on a rack.
- Whip the cream together with the vanilla sugar.
- Divide the buns and spread a layer of strawberry jam and a couple of spoonfuls of cream. Place the top and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve immediately.
