Filo Dough with Delicious Apple Filling

Preferably buy phyllo dough in the fridge. If you buy frozen filo pastry, it should be thawed overnight on the kitchen counter.

Ingredients

  • 550 g apple
  • 150 g butter
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 9 x phyllo dough

Method

  1. Chop the apples into small cubes. Mix apple, 1/3 of the butter, cinnamon and brown sugar in a frying pan. Fry for 3-4 minutes on high heat. Let it cool down a bit.
  2. Set the oven to 200 degrees celsius.
  3. Melt the rest of the butter. Place the first sheet of filo pastry on the kitchen counter or a worktop and brush it with melted butter. Place another sheet of filo pastry and brush well. Continue like this until you have placed 3 sheets of phyllo dough on top of each other.
  4. Divide into 3 equal parts lengthwise. Then you divide each part in half widthwise. Take a tablespoon of the mixture and put on the filo pastry sheet. Fold the sides towards the middle and roll it tightly into a roll. Place on a baking tray with baking paper. Continue like this until you have finished all the sheets.
  5. Brush the rolls with melted butter. Bake them in the middle of the oven until they are golden, about 15-20 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle on icing sugar just before serving. Best served warm.
